Pornhub Plans to Shoot a Porn Film in Space and Wants You to Come Along
Columbus, Da Vinci and Galileo have been the explorers and visionaries that we've needed to change the world culturally and scientifically. On the other hand, Judith Butler, Amy Schumer and Lena Dunham have all challenged the cultural norms of sex and changed the gender binaries as we know them. Pornhub wants to build on these two ideas to become sexplorers by filming the first ever sextape in space, and they want you to get involved via Indiegogo.
In space, no one can hear you moan and Pornhub wants to see if other things are true of space as well. The special interest site launched its crusade for the sexy space movie on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo. They have a fixed goal of 3.4 million dollars and have already raised $16, 600 from 849 kind donors – almost double what they made on the first day.
60% of the funds have been explicitly assigned to the cost of space travel. Commercial spaceflight company Virgin Galactic is currently offering seats to space with an upfront deposit of $250,000. So the fact that Pornhub is setting aside $2,040,000 for tickets to ride into space seems substantial enough for actors and crew.
The film, Sexplorations, will star renowned adult film stars Eva Loria and Jonny Sins. It is set to launch in 2016. Let's not get excited too fast, as it needs to meet or exceed the set Indiegogo amount in order to access the money, or else the dollars will all go back to the pockets of the backers.
In the entire history of space travel, no astronauts have had sex on either the International Space Station or anywhere else in space…as far as we know. If the human race wants to begin colonizing other planets, the ability to procreate is arguably pretty important for sustaining our species.
At a Sex in Space panel held at 2006's annual Space Frontier Foundation conference, there was a discussion of the “biological, emotional, and physical issues that will confront people moving [off Earth] into the space environment.” Weightlessness, noise and stress were cited as contributing factors to making certain sexual activities difficult but not impossible.
Want to be a contributor to this exciting research possibility? You can even get a reward. Contribution rewards range from the “Pluto”, whereby a $1 donation gets you a certificate of endorsement, to the punnily-titled “Uranus” reward, whereby a $150,000 donation will make a backer the proud owner of one of the two Pornhub-branded spacesuits worn by a “sextronaut” along with their underwear.
While the funding for Sexplorations might be a well-lubed marketing strategy, Pornhub may actually be paving the way for research or further discussion about sexual health, procreation and potential species development in outer space.
